Role Overview:
Activities Assistants support the work of IL Coordinators by providing hands-on assistance to consumers, helping them with daily living activities, and facilitating their access to community resources. Activities Assistants play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities by providing direct support, fostering independence, and ensuring that consumers can live as autonomously as possible.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct Consumer Support:
- Assist consumers with daily living activities, including personal care, household tasks, meal preparation, and transportation.
- Support consumers in managing their schedules, attending appointments, and participating in community activities.
- Provide companionship and social interaction to reduce isolation and promote well-being.
- Encourage and facilitate the development of independent living skills.
- Service Coordination:
- Collaborate with IL Coordinators to implement individualized service plans (ISPs) for consumers.
- Monitor consumer progress and report any changes or concerns to IL Coordinators.
- Assist in identifying and connecting consumers with community resources and services.
- Help consumers apply for benefits and services they are eligible for.
- Advocacy and Empowerment:
- Advocate for consumer rights and ensure they are treated with dignity and respect.
- Empower consumers to make decisions and take control of their own lives.
- Support consumers in developing self-advocacy skills.
- Address and resolve any issues or barriers that consumers encounter.
- Program Support:
- Assist in the planning and execution of group activities, workshops, and community events.
- Provide logistical support for events, including setup, coordination, and clean-up.
- Participate in training sessions and team meetings to stay informed about best practices and organizational updates.
- Collaborate with other staff and volunteers to enhance service delivery.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of consumer interactions, services provided, and progress notes.
- Ensure all documentation complies with organizational policies and confidentiality requirements.
- Prepare reports on consumer outcomes and activities for internal review.
- Contribute to the evaluation and improvement of programs and services.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associates degree or higher preferred).
- Previous experience in a caregiving, support, or social services role is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with the needs and challenges faced by individuals with disabilities.
- Communication and Interpersonal:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with consumers and their families.
- Strong empathy, patience, and understanding.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Organizational and Problem-Solving:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing situations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Technical Skills:
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Familiarity with assistive technology and its applications is a plus.
