Position Overview

This position will work with afterschool participants in grades 5-8 to provide health education, including sex education, during afterschool hours in local public schools. The person in this position will help shape this program with the Director of Health Initiatives to ensure all lessons are age-appropriate and educational while being fun and engaging. This position will also help educate parents of participants on various health-related topics.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the Director of Health Initiatives, create lesson plans based on the goals of the health/sex education program
• Participate in all required trainings through NIDC and funders
• Implement lessons and activities with participants in grades 5-8
• Work with the Director of Health Initiatives and the NIDC Social Worker to plan and facilitate corresponding parent workshops

Key Qualifications & Preferred Attributes

• Bachelors degree in Public Health, Social Work, or a related field required
• 2-3 years of health education with youth preferred
• Strong work ethic and professional values
• Able to demonstrate cultural humility with diverse communities
• Desire to learn and grow as part of an expanding organization; team player with a flexible, creative, and analytical approach to problem-solving
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Solid computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite, internet research
• Able to work with a variety of learning abilities
• Healthy sense of humor
