Job Description Dewberry has an immediate opportunity for an experienced Bridge/Tunnel Inspection Engineer in our Boston, MA office with 5-15 years of bridge/tunnel inspection experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of bridge/tunnel inspection engineers, performing In-Service Bridge and Tunnel Inspections in Boston and throughout Massachusetts, and conducting live-load ratings for vehicular and railroad bridges. This role also includes assisting in project management duties on various bridge and tunnel inspection contracts, such as scope and fee development, scheduling, and client interaction. Responsibilities Perform in-service bridge and tunnel inspections on various structure types. Review previous inspection reports, plans, and related documents to prepare for inspections. Oversee the preparation of inspection reports following appropriate standards. Assign tasks to engineers, technicians, or administrative staff. Coordinate inspection activities, including scheduling specialty access equipment, traffic control, police details, and permits. Develop scope, budgets, and schedules for inspection assignments. Assist in preparing proposals for professional services. Engage directly with clients. Work outdoors in diverse weather conditions, at heights, in confined spaces, over water, and near traffic. Utilize various inspection instruments effectively. Additional duties may involve participating in the design of bridges and related transportation structures, including new construction, rehabilitation, and preservation projects. Required Skills & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with at least 5 years of bridge/tunnel inspection experience. Professional Engineering license preferred. Experience with MassDOT and/or MBTA is advantageous. Proficiency in computer applications, bridge engineering software, and AutoCAD. Physical capability to perform fieldwork around bridges and tunnels. Completion of NHI Safety Inspection Courses for In-Service Bridges and Tunnel Safety Inspection. Knowledge of bridge safety inspection techniques, structural behavior, deterioration of materials, and maintenance/rehabilitation methods is preferred.
