Edgewood Position: Chief People & Culture Officer Reports To: CEO FLSA: Full-time (40 hours/week), Exempt, Regular Location : San Francisco Edgewood is a leading nonprofit organization in the San Francisco Bay Area, providing life-changing mental healthcare to youth and families since 1851. The organization provides a comprehensive continuum of care that addresses the full spectrum of mental health needs, ranging from prevention and early intervention to intensive and crisis services, across six locations. Position Summary The Chief People & Culture Officer (CPCO) will drive organizational excellence by managing the internal processes and infrastructure that enable Edgewood to fulfill its mission. This strategic leadership role spans all People and Culture functions, requiring collaboration across departments and with key external partners to foster an environment where exceptional youth mental healthcare thrives. The CPCO reports to the CEO and is part of the executive team. Responsibilities The CPCO will lead and execute in the following areas: Strategic Leadership & Culture Champion a culture of curiosity, approachability, kindness, and continuous improvement in partnership with the CEO. Participate in strategic organizational planning alongside the Executive Team. Create programs and projects intended to continue Edgewood’s path toward becoming a healing community. People Operations & Development Assess and enhance staff morale and engagement through surveys and data-driven insights, addressing gaps proactively. Develop and oversee comprehensive leadership development and performance management systems. Provide strategic guidance to management on HR trends and best practices, ensuring effectiveness across all People & Culture functions. Establish and administer policies for compensation, benefits, performance management, staff development, training, and key performance indicators. Employee Relations & Compliance Manage union relations and agency partnerships, including contract requests and negotiations. Build strong relationships with staff and union representatives, fostering balanced collective bargaining that serves clients, the organization, and employees. Oversee compliance with health and safety, workers' compensation, and all state, federal, and local employment regulations. Develop and implement comprehensive risk mitigation strategies. Foster transparent, empathetic relationships with employees to build trust and strengthen collaboration. Talent Management & Systems Lead talent acquisition, recruitment, & retention strategies to attract high-caliber candidates. Promote professional development through targeted coaching, counseling, and training. Oversee and negotiate competitive and equitable wage/salary frameworks and comprehensive benefit programs, including health, retirement, and workers' comp. Oversee HRIS, payroll, and reporting systems, ensuring accurate and timely execution. Lead continued operational and technology initiatives to improve efficiency and evolve from a transactional and reactive mindset to a more relational and proactive mindset. Execute additional responsibilities as assigned by the CEO. Staff Wellness & Retention Champion initiatives that address staff burnout and support employee wellness. Drive strategies to retain top talent through career development and recognition. Qualifications Leadership Excellence Demonstrated kind and visionary leadership with proven ability to motivate staff towards high performance while inspiring trust. Experience Requirements 10+ years of progressive experience in Human Resources required. 5+ years of Operations management experience preferred. Non-profit or government sector experience is strongly preferred. Core Competencies Exceptional management, organizational, communication, and dispute resolution skills in complex organizational environments. Deep expertise in union relationships, collective bargaining, employee relations, and sophisticated negotiation management. Comprehensive knowledge of California employment laws and their practical application. Extensive experience across HR functions, including compensation, labor and employee relations, benefits, recruitment and selection, integrated disability management, policy development, payroll, training, and organizational development. Track record of leading change in complex organizations. Experience in implementing and managing performance metrics and evaluation systems. Education & Certifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience. SPHR or SCP Certification preferred. Compensation and Benefits The compensation is based on experience. The salary range is $200,000 - $220,000. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance as well as a retirement plan.
