JOB SUMMARY
Position Title: Community Educator
Program: Domestic Violence Services
Classification: Non-Exempt/Full-Time
The Community Educator supports DVS by delivering educational programming to youth throughout the county, with a focus on fostering healthy relationships and providing resources for addressing harmful ones. Additionally, this role strengthens DVS's relationships with educators and community professionals by raising awareness of dating abuse, family violence, and the services DVS offers to support survivors and their families.
Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Partnership Development
• Build and maintain relationships with educators, school administrators, and community organizations across Lancaster County.
• Collaborate with professionals in youth-serving roles to integrate domestic violence awareness into their programs and services.
• Serve as a liaison between DVS and schools, ensuring ongoing communication and collaboration to support youth and families.
2. Program Delivery
• Deliver educational presentations and workshops focused on domestic violence prevention, healthy relationships, risk reduction, and safety planning to youth in schools, community centers, and other venues.
• Tailor presentations to suit the needs of specific audiences, ensuring inclusivity and relevance.
• Provide education that fosters resilience, healthy relationships, and a deep understanding of domestic violence issues among youth.
3. Curriculum Development
• Design, adapt, and continuously update educational materials to align with the latest research and trends in domestic violence prevention.
• Develop electronic and virtual tools to enhance engagement and learning during presentations and workshops.
• Collaborate with internal staff and external partners to create training modules that increase the capacity of educators and other professionals to address dating violence and family abuse
4. Community Outreach and Engagement
• Represent DVS at community events, tabling opportunities, and awareness campaigns with a focus on youth and family engagement.
• Facilitate a county-wide Teen Advisory Committee, guiding teens in addressing domestic violence, bullying, and school climate issues through initiatives like hotspot mapping and policy advocacy.
• Support teens in developing peer support groups or clubs and empower them to contribute to outreach efforts that promote healthy relationships and violence prevention.
• Work with DVS’s social media team to develop youth-centered content for online platforms, promoting the organization’s resources and services.
• Facilitate participation in county-wide initiatives aimed at preventing domestic violence and promoting safe, supportive environments for youth.
5. Reporting and Compliance
• Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, participant numbers, and program outcomes.
• Compile and submit monthly reports on educational efforts and partnerships to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
• Complete 10 hours of continuing education in domestic violence, youth services, or related fields annually, as required.
*Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in an education-related or social services field required.
• 2-4 years’ experience in education, training, or public speaking is preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
• Experience working with youth in a professional or volunteer capacity preferred.
• Understanding domestic violence, dating violence, and related social issues preferred.
