Under the supervision of the Director of Platform Computing, assists senior Data Center personnel in analyzing workflows and procedures and recommends changes where applicable. Prepares reports and logs detailing shift activity. Detects and troubleshoots network, computer and peripheral equipment malfunctions, taking corrective actions or escalating problems as required. Executes service requests, responds to incidents and assists in meeting service level agreements related to Platform Computing operation. Performs other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) certificate SUPPLEMENTED WITH four (4) years of full-time experience working with a mainframe with attached printing is required.

-OR-

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree SUPPLEMENTED WITH two (2) years of full-time experience working with a mainframe with attached printing is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with IBM zSeries servers.
  • Experience with IBM iSeries servers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

Knowledge in the use and operation of local area network minicomputers, mainframes, personal computers (PC), and related hardware and software. Skill in the basic use, installation and application of such equipment. Knowledge of peripheral equipment such as high speed digital printers, folders, inserters and binders. Knowledge of troubleshooting responsibilities and tasks associated with the IBM zSeries mainframe computer and attached printing. Knowledge of Multiple Virtual Storage (MVS), Time Sharing Option (TSO) and Job Entry Subsystem (JES2). Skill in and knowledge of performing queries, extracting certain information and manipulating data. Ability to detect and analyze basic system related problems and to recommend a corrective plan of action. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and technology personnel, prepare reports, and use sound judgment in interpreting problems and issues related to work assignment. Ability to learn the use and application of new software and operate in different platforms. Ability to assist users in computer based work activities with a customer service orientation. Ability to work independently to meet deadlines and established schedules. Ability to work alternate shifts, as necessary, to ensure proper coverage. This position occasionally requires various types of physical exertion including, but not limited to climbing, lifting, pulling, pushing, and moving moderate to heavy weight.
