Director of Finance and Operations

Position Overview

The Director of Finance and Operations will play a critical role in overseeing and optimizing the financial operations of Capital Home Builders and its affiliated entities. This individual will work directly with the Chief Executive Officer and collaborate closely with the Controller, Purchasing Agent, and other department heads to ensure that all financial systems, reporting, and processes operate efficiently and align with the company’s strategic goals.

The Director of Finance and Operations will be responsible for developing and implementing procedures that enhance accountability, improve accuracy in cost tracking, and ensure profitability across projects. This position requires a hands-on leader who combines technical accounting expertise with strategic business insight, capable of operating both at a high level and in the day-to-day details of financial management.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Oversight

  • Oversee daily financial operations across all company divisions.
  • Collaborate with the Controller and Purchasing Agent to streamline processes around purchase orders, bill entry, and bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure accurate job cost tracking by verifying that expenses and materials are properly coded within the accounting system.
  • Monitor and analyze profitability on a job-by-job basis, identifying trends, cost inefficiencies, and opportunities for margin improvement.
  • Lead quarterly financial reporting for banking partners and ensure compliance with all lender requirements.

Strategic Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Work with the CEO on underwriting and analyzing new development projects to ensure profitability and sound financial structure.
  • Conduct cash flow analysis, forecasting, and modeling for existing operations and future investments.
  • Participate in strategic planning and capital allocation, including evaluation of debt structures and financing options.
  • Assist in structuring development deals, including financial modeling, partnership structures, and return analysis.

Project & Deal Management

  • Partner with attorneys and external advisors to evaluate and document project financing, acquisitions, and development deals.
  • Interface with county officials and planning commissions to support approvals and project advancement.
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations and investor materials outlining deal structures, investment returns, and company financial health.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Implement consistent documentation and financial procedures across all business units to ensure accuracy and transparency.
  • Collaborate with office staff to manage ACH payments and vendor disbursements, ensuring compliance and efficiency.
  • Identify and develop synergies across multiple entities to streamline reporting, reduce redundancies, and increase operational alignment.

Performance Optimization

  • Review and evaluate job profitability reports and collaborate with operations to reduce costs and improve margins.
  • Lead internal initiatives focused on improving financial visibility, automation, and efficiency in accounting workflows.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management (MBA preferred).
  • CPA or experience in public accounting strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Chief Financial Officer, Controller, or senior financial leader in a construction, real estate development, or multi-entity environment.
  • Expertise in financial analysis, underwriting, and cash flow management.
  • Strong understanding of job cost accounting, project-based financials, and cost control systems.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interface with attorneys, banks, investors, and government officials.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple ongoing initiatives.
