JOB TITLE: Education and Outreach Administrator

REPORTS TO: Education and Outreach Manager

SUMMARY:
The Education and Outreach Administrator focuses on developing and implementing programs and initiatives to educate and engage residents of Rhode Island on waste reduction, recycling, composting, and proper waste disposal. These programs aim to extend the life of the Central Landfill through public education driven behavioral change. The Education and Outreach Administrator is responsible for promoting learning, fostering community engagement, and driving positive change through the Education and Outreach program. Qualified individuals will possess strong computer skills, public speaking skills, be able to communicate effectively to the public, and have an interest in Resource Recovery’s operations and programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate Education Programs: Schedule and manage Resource Recovery’s educational programs, including on-site tours, off-site presentations, and outreach events for schools, institutions, businesses, and community organization
- Communicate Resource Recovery Operations: Stay current on Resource Recovery operations and effectively convey this information to the public and visitors
- Lead Tours and Presentations: Conduct facility tours and presentations, including occasional off-site events during evenings and weekends
- Manage Recycling Hotline : Respond to public inquiries regarding proper waste disposal and general operations
- Develop Educational Resources : Collaborate with the Education and Outreach Manager to create compelling educational materials for a diverse age groups (K-12 and adult) on topics such as recycling, food waste prevention, composting and proper waste disposal.
- Oversee Outreach Materials: Maintain and update inventory of outreach materials, including digital archives
- Track Program Data: Manage data associated with Resource Recovery’s free programs and services
- Engage the Community: Design and implement strategies to reach and engage Rhode Island residents through various channels such as social media, community events, presentations, and collaborations
- Support Special Projects: Contribute to additional projects and responsibilities as needed.
- Maintain Professionalism: Uphold a high level of professionalism in all interactions and tasks
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s degree in environmental science, education, communication, public policy, public relations, or related field preferred.
- Two years’ experience in environmental program coordination, education, recycling, or related field preferred.
- Ability to think critically and analytically with strong reasoning skills.
- Strong computer skills. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook for communicating and scheduling; comfort with various internet browsers; ability and willingness to learn more advanced skills.
- Highly organized and detailed-oriented, with ability to follow multi-step processes consistently.
- Capable of learning new material and willing to spend time expanding knowledge of Resource Recovery’s operations.
- Self-directed and able to work independently.
- Ability to respond appropriately and maintain composure in difficult customer service situations and maintain a high level of professionalism.
- Ability to develop strong professional relationships with customers/visitors. Frequent contacts with teachers, general public, community leaders, and public stakeholders, to provide or obtain information and updates.
- Must be comfortable making presentations to groups of various sizes and demographics.
- Read, write, and speak English; multilingual skills a plus.
- Experience with data collection, analysis, and reporting to measure program effectiveness a plus.
- Periodic contacts with superiors, peers, and operations staff.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle for travel.
