Job Summary

Langan is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join its collaborative team in White Plains, New York City, NY or Parsipanny, NJ. This individual will serve a key function in assisting with the natural resource planning, assessment and permitting of land development and infrastructure projects, and leading specific assignments and tasks. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse team of top-notch professionals in a variety of geographic areas and regulatory programs, and to collaborate and learn from our multi-disciplinary team of site/civil, geotechnical, survey, and landscape architect professionals on landmark land development projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare the natural resource planning, assessment and permitting documents for land development and infrastructure projects in close collaboration with Project Personnel;

  • Effectively use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess the natural resource characteristics of project sites for natural resource assessment and permitting due diligence to plan and design projects;

  • Perform natural resource feasibility assessments for development projects;

  • Write and/or review draft due diligence reports, assessment and permit applications;

  • Prepare site assessments and related natural resource figures using GIS and AutoCAD software;

  • Coordinate and perform field inspection services, as needed; and

  • Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology or related discipline;

  • 0-3 years of experience in wetlands delineation and natural resource permitting;

  • Professional Wetland Scientist in Training preferred;

  • Demonstrated experience in performing wetland delineations, environmental studies in the support of an/or preparing applications;

  • Familiarity with current local, New York State, local and federal land use permitting;

  • OSHA 40-hour training;

  • Excellent analytical and judgement capabilities;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;

  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment;

  • Strong GIS skills preferred; experience with AutoCAD skills a plus;

  • Ability to occasionally participate in field work and work during evenings and/or weekends, as needed by project schedule;

  • Occasional travel to project sites and/or client locations, as required; and

  • Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Certain US jurisdictions require Langan to include an estimate of salary or hourly ranges. The estimated range for this role is: $65,000 - $88,500. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm. Employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience and level.
