The Hospitalist at Houston Methodist Hospital provides comprehensive inpatient medical care by diagnosing, treating, and managing hospitalized patients, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality outcomes. This full-time role involves rotating one week on and one week off service, primarily serving patients in hepatology, oncology, and orthopedics, among other specialties. The position requires a licensed MD with board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Hospitalist Medicine and emphasizes patient-centered care and effective teamwork.
Job Description
Inpatient Hospitalists TMC is a private medical practice company located in Houston, Texas, at the Houston Methodist Hospital, Texas Medical Center branch. We provide quality hospitalist service to our patients. Our practice is situated in the heart of the Texas Medical Center, one of the largest medical centers in the world, offering a collaborative and innovative environment for medical professionals.
Role Description
This is a job for a Full-Time on-site role for a Hospitalist. We are looking for a fully licensed MD to work as a hospitalist.
Full-time work in our practice is described as 7 days of hospitalist work followed by 7 days off-service, and the cycle repeats itself throughout the year.
The Hospitalist will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to hospitalized patients, including performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating medical conditions, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing treatment plans. The Hospitalist will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest standard of patient care and coordination.
Schedule
1 week on service alternating with 1 week off service (time-off)
Typical workdays start at approximately 8 AM and usually end by 5 PM or sooner based on patient volume and efficient workflow.
Vacation
We encourage our hospitalists to arrange their vacation time when they are on their Off-Weeks.
Specific days off can sometimes be arranged by swapping workdays with other physicians in our practice, or more extended vacations can sometimes be arranged by working two weeks in a row, followed by two weeks off service.
Workload
The average patient census ranges between 18 and 24 patients. Mondays through Fridays are usually a little busier, and weekends tend to be less busy.
Patient population
We primarily service patients in our hepatology, oncology, and orthopedics programs, which cover a wide range of medical conditions and treatments.
These service lines enjoy specialized medical wings where nurses are highly trained in their respective fields and dedicated specialists to help in patient disease management.
Our intensive Care Units are semi-closed, meaning an intensivist manages the critical aspects of the patient’s illness. However, as a hospitalist, you will still follow the case for continuity of medical care until the patient transfers out of the ICU back into our primary management.
Graduating residents are encouraged to contact us no sooner than 4 months before your residency graduation.
Qualifications
Salary
The yearly salary should range between $280,000 - $310,000 per year for a Full-Time hospitalist as described above. As you gain experience, this could increase.
We also offer an additional quarterly physician bonus that is performance-based, tied to key metrics such as patient mortality, patient satisfaction scores, medical documentation/query responses, prevention of patient readmissions, and attendance at quality improvement events.
