Job Summary:

This Advanced Technology Mechanical Controls Engineer is a member of the Advanced Technology team working closely with the Systems and Controls Engineering Team and is responsible for developing control systems and algorithms for implementation into Residential HVAC products. This role will have the responsibilities detailed below and work as part of the team to achieve the organization’s overall goals.

Where is the work:

This position has been designated as onsite.
\n
Responsibilities:
\n
\n - Work with product development teams, control system engineering, and the advanced technology team to develop control systems and algorithms.
\n \n - Problem definition and scoping
\n - System modeling using tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow
\n - Feedback control development and associated algorithms
\n - Simulation of proposed control systems
\n - Rapid prototyping and model in the loop testing
\n - Hardware in the loop simulation
\n
\n - Requirements development and documentation for the control system and algorithms
\n - Performing Failure Modes and Effects Analyses of algorithms
\n - Working with the Controls Systems Engineers to implement into embedded system controls
\n - Process improvement and standard work documentation.
\n \n - Develop design guidelines and standards for documentation and communication of control system algorithms.
\n - Work with controls team to define overall process and how this role integrates with the organization most effectively.
\n - Continuously refine control system Failure Modes and Effects Analysis process.
\n - Work with reliability engineering to develop standard reliability test plans around control systems and algorithms.
\n
\n - Maintain and upgrade control system development tools.
\n \n - Keep tools such as MathWorks programs up to date.
\n - Work with enterprise modeling teams to enhance simulation capabilities.
\n - Work with testing lab to order/build automated test setups in support of controls system and algorithm development.
\n
\n - Mechanical/electronic control system architecting.
\n \n - Work with Systems Architect and Controls Systems Engineers to define the ideal system architectures for the future.
\n - Develop design guidelines and standard work that will support the strategy.
\n
\n - Stay apprised of new product technologies and new analysis or development tools; develop ideas to support innovation initiatives.
\n - Keep up to date with changing regulations, as well as the implications for our products.
\n
\n
Qualifications:
\n
\n - Minimum MS in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering and at least 3 years of experience with thermal control applications.
\n - Thorough thermal systems knowledge a plus (thermodynamics, psychrometrics, fluids, heat transfer)
\n
\n
Key Competencies:
\n
\n - Thorough thermal systems knowledge (thermodynamics, psychrometrics, fluids, heat transfer).
\n - Thorough understanding of control system theory.
\n - Experience with development tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow.
\n - Familiarity with model-based design.
\n - Control system flowcharting, state diagram creation, and algorithm development.
\n - Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering principles and ability to apply to real-world problems.
\n - Experience with automated test development and execution.
\n - Ability to create design guidelines and standards.
\n - Problem assessment and problem-solving skills.
\n - Good verbal and written communication skills.
\n - Works effectively in an open consensus-oriented team environment.
\n - Conflict management skills.
\n - Results-oriented individual with an emphasis placed on achieving overall team performance.
\n - Familiarity with PC based Windows programs (Excel, Word, Access, etc.).
