THE POSITION

Be part of a great team! The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services is actively seeking a Medical Records Assistant to work in the fast-paced environment at Torrance State Hospital. The successful candidate must be able to work through deadlines and communicate with other departments to ensure that every patient has a complete record. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Medical Records Assistant (MRA) position distributes forensic continuity of care documents, transcribes dictated reports, and completes Medicare billing. Work includes completing release of information and correspondence requests, assembling and analyzing discharge medical records, assigning ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, chart reviews, database entry and other general medical record functions. These duties include compliance with both internal and external privacy and confidentiality guidelines and requirements such as HIPAA, Pennsylvania Mental Health Procedures, and Drug and Alcohol regulations. In this role, it will be your responsibility to ensure that all patient information is stored and retrieved efficiently and effectively.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of clerical experience in a medical records department of a hospital, or ambulatory acute medical care setting or a licensed nursing facility, which has included six months of experience under the general direction or oversight by a registered Medical Records Technician or Administrator; and graduation from high school; or
  • Graduation from a medical secretarial or medical records program; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
