Position Type: Elementary School Teaching/ Physical Education Date Posted: 2/27/2025 Location: iLearn Schools Date Available: 08/11/2025 Position Title: Physical Education Teacher (Elementary) Position Purpose: Under the general supervision of the School Director, to develop students' physical skills and abilities, strength, agility, poise, coordination, and teamwork; to develop students' understanding of the importance of exercise to physical and mental well-being; and to motivate students to work towards physical fitness, hygiene, and good health. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required. New Jersey Standard Teaching Certification (CE, CEAS) with subject matter specialization: Health & Physical Education. Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation. Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of grade-specific school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding education and students, as well as relating to health education. Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school-related matters. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work; parents, students, and faculty, etc. Prior to employment, the following must be addressed: Complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person’s offense in accordance with N.J.S.A 18A:6-7.1. Develops and administers Physical Education classes consistent with school district goals and objectives. Teaches knowledge of, and develops skills and abilities in, physical fitness, rhythm and dance, coordination and agility, exercise, and sports. Develops students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and social skills; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and appropriate feedback regarding student progress, expectations, and goals. Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational activities, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws. Assists in coordinating extracurricular activities, including student performances, assemblies, and athletic events. Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents. Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within physical education and grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees. Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records. Inspects equipment and field areas used to ensure they are in good and safe working order. Performs any other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification that may be assigned. Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
