Salary and Benefits Begin your career as an Air Interdiction Agent (AIA) and make up to $104,000–125,000 per year based on your GS-11 grade level qualifications, location, and overtime pay. This career ladder position has a grade progression of GS-11, GS-12, and GS-13. Promotions to higher grades are possible automatically after 52 weeks at each level (with supervisor approval). Agents are eligible for federal benefits including health, dental, insurance plans, generous leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan similar to a 401(k). Duty Locations Locations are determined based on operational and mission needs across the Southeast Border Region, Caribbean Air and Marine Branch (CAMB), Southwest Border Region, and NASOC UAS locations. Final duty location may include: Southeast Region: Homestead, FL and Aguadilla, PR Southwest Region: Tucson, Yuma, AZ; San Diego, CA; El Paso, Laredo, McAllen, TX NASOC UAS locations: Sierra Vista, AZ; San Angelo, TX Reimbursement for relocation expenses may be available. Duties and Responsibilities As an Air Interdiction Agent, you will conduct aviation-based law enforcement operations to detect, prevent, and apprehend terrorists, weapons, and contraband, preventing illegal entry or attacks against the U.S. Typical Duties Include Air patrol, surveillance, and pursuit activities against smuggling and illegal activities. Monitoring suspect behavior and activities. Collecting and analyzing intelligence. Searching persons, vessels, and cargo for contraband or weapons. Qualifications Experience: Qualified for GS-11 if you have one year of specialized experience performing duties such as: Flying as Pilot-in-Command or sole manipulator in various environments, including night and poor weather. Rapid decision-making during flights. Developing strategies and coordinating assets. Using information systems for surveys and updates. Experience may include roles like Captain, Pilot in Command, or Co-pilot. Minimum Flight Hours: 1500 flight hours required; up to 500 hours can be waived, reducing to 1000 hours. Military ratings equivalent to civilian certifications are also accepted. Additional requirements include specific pilot hours, FAA medical certification, and UAS flight hours, with some requirements temporarily waived through August 1, 2024. Additional Requirements Citizenship: U.S. Citizen Residency: Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years. Age: Maximum age for appointment is 40, with provisions for extension.
