Curriculum and Instruction Curriculum Development - ESSENTIAL: Review and evaluate curriculum to meet student interests and needs within divisional/departmental budget constraints and equipment/materials availability; coordinate with part-time instructors to enhance consistency of lecture/laboratory content; evaluate or revise course descriptions to fit curriculum designs; present proposals for curriculum changes to the Curriculum Committee and/or other appropriate shared governance bodies; make changes to curriculum as necessary and as approved within the shared governance structure. PERIPHERAL: Review curriculum for concordance with changes in laws, regulations, and standards. Lecture/Laboratory Preparation - ESSENTIAL: Review and evaluate new textbooks for content, readability, and cost effectiveness; select textbooks determined to be most useful and appropriate; read current literature to prepare lectures; prepare, edit, and update syllabus materials for lectures and/or laboratories; review and select or prepare computer and audio-visual materials; prepare handouts or transparencies; coordinate with book publishing company representatives providing instructional materials. PERIPHERAL: Complete book order forms and provide master copies of syllabi for printing; place reference items on reserve; prepare lesson plans; attend conferences; familiarize with operation of equipment. Lecture/Laboratory Presentation - ESSENTIAL: Introduce and present lecture/laboratory information and concepts clearly; use examples to convey key concepts; provide instructional objectives; outline major points; enhance presentations with visual aids; distribute handouts; answer questions clearly; encourage student participation; monitor behavior and maintain classroom order with equal opportunity for participation. Student Performance Evaluation - ESSENTIAL: Develop quizzes, tests, and examinations that are understandable and fairly evaluate progress; monitor activity during exams and prevent cheating; evaluate student responses and assign grades; assign and evaluate homework; input scores and provide results as needed. PERIPHERAL: Input student scores into a computer and provide printouts to affected students. Shared Governance Participation - ESSENTIAL: Attend and participate in departmental meetings; respond to information requests; participate in curriculum development and equipment needs assessment; represent department on campus-wide committees. PERIPHERAL: Attend divisional/building meetings, participate in Faculty Senate activities, read information polls, and serve on committees as requested. Ancillary Student Services - ESSENTIAL: Hold regular office hours; provide academic guidance; serve as a positive role model; participate in graduation events; PERIPHERAL: Provide letters of recommendation; hold review sessions; advise students on curriculum. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications - CCC Minimum Qualifications Handbook: Master’s in political science, government, or international relations; OR Bachelor’s in any of the above; AND Master’s in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, and any ethnic studies, Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.); OR equivalent. Additional Information - This position is a part-time faculty teaching assignment with the following salary rates: Part-Time/Adjunct Salary Schedule (Degree and years of acceptable teaching experience determine step placement). Compensation and Benefits COMPENSATION Placement on the District’s Faculty Salary Schedule is dependent on years of experience and level of education. Rates vary by lecture vs. lab/counselor assignments and by level, with current pay ranges listed on the schedule. Employees are members of the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS); sick leave and other leaves apply per the collective bargaining agreement.
