Job Description:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for providing comprehensive accounting and finance support to the organization’s internal stakeholders. This role involves managing general ledger activities, ensuring compliance with contractual and government grant reporting requirements, and supporting the Controller in maintaining robust financial systems and procedures. The Senior Accountant will participate in the month-end close process, financial reporting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and other assigned projects.

Key responsibilities include:

• Financial Operations : Oversee and ensure efficient operations in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Fixed Asset functions. Make strategic recommendations for process improvements, enforce policies, and monitor internal controls.
• General Ledger Management : Prepare monthly journal entries, record depreciation, manage government billing, and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP standards and federal regulations. Support month-end close processes and financial statement preparation.
• Grant and Donation Management : Perform all accounting functions related to government grants, corporate donations, in-kind donations, and foundation donations. Ensure accurate processing and documentation for compliance and reporting purposes.
• Financial Reporting and Analysis : Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements, annual operating budgets, and reports for grantees and governmental agencies. Review financial accounts and perform variance analyses to support informed decision-making.
• Audit Support : Assist with external audits by preparing required schedules, reconciliations, and other documentation. Ensure the organization is prepared for audits and complies with all regulatory requirements.
• Team Collaboration : Cross-train with the Staff Accountant and Controller to provide backup support and maintain continuity of operations. Communicate effectively with the Controller and Chief Financial Officer regarding daily operations and potential issues.

Qualifications:
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited university is required. CPA certification is a plus.
· Experience: 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience is required, with a preference for experience in the non-profit sector. Strong background in general ledger management, financial reporting, and grant compliance is essential.
· Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including V lookups and pivot tables) is required, along with experience in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Microsoft 365. Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics and Ceres, or the ability to learn these systems, is required.
· Communication and Collaboration: Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to develop strong working relationships with diverse stakeholders. Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, manage multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines.
· Personal Attributes: A commitment to the organization’s mission and core values, including stewardship, teamwork, agility, and respect. The ability to maintain confidentiality, work under pressure, and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail in rapidly changing circumstances is critical. Flexibility to work extended hours during critical periods and attend events or meetings that may require overnight travel is also required.
