This position will need to by physically located in our Trane La Crosse campus and has been designated as a Hybrid work schedule with work performed on-site 3 days each week.

We are looking for a Senior Control Algorithm Engineer to join our Trane team in La Crosse WI, on the beautiful Mississippi River. This team is creating next generation, industry leading commercial HVAC equipment & controls. Our customers know Trane’s reputation to deliver energy efficient and reliable solutions to minimize operating costs while reducing environmental impact to the world. Here are some of the specifics:

Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):

\n

\n
• Work with product management and application engineering to understand product requirements
\n
• Develop control strategies and algorithms to meet or exceed product requirements
\n
• Develop technical specifications to be used by the team for software development and verification
\n
• Utilize effective communication techniques to help team members understand and implement the design strategy
\n
• Lead dynamic controls testing: test planning, lab support, data analysis
\n
• Develop and execute hardware in loop testing (real time data analysis)
\n
• Advance model driven development methods
\n
• Able to travel overnight; less than 5% of the time.
\n

\n

Minimum Qualifications:

\n

\n
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Applied Mathematics or Physics (or related technical discipline) and at least 5 years of HVAC or control theory experience is required.
\n
• Master’s or PhD degree is a plus.
\n

\n

Key Skills or Competencies:

\n

\n
• Classical control knowledge required (PID control, linear control, digital filtering)
\n
• Advanced control knowledge preferred (modern control theory, model predictive control, non-linear control, adaptive control)
\n
• System modeling expertise required (proficiency with Matlab Simulink, and optionally Stateflow)
\n
• Computer Skills: Java, C++, C with ability to learn new programming languages
\n
• Ability to effectively communicate with others both written and orally
\n
• Software Skills: Matlab/Simulink, Modelica, C++ programming, Python
\n
• Knowledge of HVAC, heat transfer, refrigeration systems and/or thermodynamics
\n
• Data analysis including quality control and customer problem resolution
\n
• Comprehensive knowledge of sensors and actuators
\n
• HVAC system modeling experience  
\n

\n

Compensation:  

\n

Salary Range: $75,000 – 143,000 annually. This salary range is based on US national averages. Actual pay could be a result of seniority/experience level, merit and geographic location where the actual work is performed.
