Position Overview
Spence-Chapin is seeking a dynamic and creative Social Media Intern to join our team. As a member of our marketing department, you will play a pivotal role in expanding our online presence, fostering community engagement, and sharing the inspiring stories that define our organization's mission. As a courtesy, Spence-Chapin will offer a travel stipend for participating interns and will happily assist in completing any necessary requirements to obtain school credit. This is a part-time, hybrid position. Ideally, you would come into our Union Square office 1-2 times per week.
Spence-Chapin is a non-profit organization based in New York City that has been providing adoption services and adoption support for more than 110 years. Spence-Chapin is newly licensed in Arizona. At Spence-Chapin, we believe that every child deserves a family, and we work tirelessly to advocate for children in need of a permanent, loving home. Over our history, Spence-Chapin has served more than 25,000 children, women, and families through our main program areas: Comprehensive Domestic and International Adoption Programs; Birth Parent Services; Well-being Services; and International Humanitarian Aid through programs like our Granny Program to support children living in orphanages overseas.

Responsibilities: - Schedule & post content across social media platforms, ensuring timely and consistent posting, and utilizing effective tagging and hashtag strategies to maximize reach and engagement.
- Monitor social media channels for trends, feedback, and conversations related to adoption, child welfare, and relevant topics—forwarding promptly to the Marketing team and making recommendations based on observations.
- Work with the Content Marketing Manager to develop engaging, informative, and visually compelling content across various social media platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn) that aligns with Spence-Chapin's values and objectives.
- Take high-quality video content at Spence-Chapin’s HQ in Union Square, or other nearby event locations—coordinating with internal stakeholders to gather content, testimonials, and stories for social media use.
- Editing video content to be engaging, informative, and compelling.
- Assist in the development of an Influencer marketing strategy—identifying potential partners, drafting outreach copy, developing campaign ideas, etc.
- Track key performance metrics and analyze social media data for continuous improvement.
Qualifications: - Either working towards or obtained a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Experience in social media management, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and storytelling.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, algorithms, and best practices.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Creative thinker with a passion for creating engaging content and fostering online communities.
- Empathetic and compassionate approach to engaging with diverse audiences, including prospective adoptive families, birth families, and adoptees.
- Proficiency in Canva, video editing platforms, and social media analytics tools.
