Description Definition Under general direction, supervises, coordinates, and performs technical support activities for dance, theatre arts, and music productions, as well as special events, lectures, forums, student activities and community events; confers with various stakeholders to determines and proposes designs, specifications, needs, and requirements for district-wide and community events and productions; coordinates the design, setting, up, and/or construction of sets, props, special effects, scenery, lighting, audio, staging, rigging, and striking of equipment; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Supervision Works under the direct supervision of an Academic Administrator.
Supervises classified staff, temporary, and/or student employees.
Schedule 40 hours per week, 12 months per year.
Work schedule will vary, and will include evenings and weekends as needed based upon production schedules.
Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties and responsibilities are typical of those performed by employees in this classification.
- Supervises, coordinates, and performs technical support activities for dance, theatre arts, and music productions, as well as special events, lectures, forums, student activities and community events.
- Confers with various stakeholders to determine and propose designs, specifications, needs, and requirements for district-wide, and community events and productions; determines the scope of work required for the event/production.
- Coordinates the design, setting, up, and/or construction of sets, props, special effects, scenery, lighting, audio, staging, rigging, and striking of equipment; determines and procures needed supplies and items; creates working drawings and diagrams of technical event/production elements; may design custom furniture as needed.
- Produces and maintains master calendars of all performing arts productions and associated rehearsals, as well as any special events using performing arts or other campus venues that request technical support/assistance; serves as the primary liaison and scheduler for the use of performing arts facilities; coordinates technical support with the appropriate department for non-performing arts facilities.
- Maintains, repairs, and remodels performing arts venues, equipment, and related facilities as needed; coordinates work with contractors as needed.
- Researches, defines, develops, and enforces safety regulations and protocols throughout the performing arts facilities.
- Monitors and tracks budgets for assigned areas.
- Recommends and implements goals, policies, and procedures related to areas of responsibility; contributes to program review processes.
- Promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, cultural competency, and a positive work and academic environment.
- Coordinates and oversees the implementation and modification of technology.
- Supervises department employees; assigns and monitors employee's work and evaluates employee performance; trains employees; participates in employee selection.
- Monitors and reviews programs and/or operations for legal compliance.
- Analyzes and interprets data; prepares, reviews, and/or approves documents and reports.
- May direct and/or conduct surveys and special studies; may maintain statistics.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The education, training and experience qualifications are considered likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the above essential duties.
Education and Experience: Associate's degree from an accredited college or university.
Four (4) years of technical performing arts or event production experience.
Licenses/Certificates/Other Requirements Knowledge of : - Technical principles and methods of event/production planning, design, and construction, including specifications, materials, standards, costs associated with labor and materials, and terminology.
- Principles and methods of designing event/production sets, lighting, sound, props, and special effects.
- Principles and practices of electrical and electronic technology.
- Digital communications used in theatrical equipment.
- Scenic and structural rigging and striking.
- Procedures for maintaining performance facilities and equipment.
- Computer aided design (CAD), drafting, and blueprint making.
- Audio editing and three-dimensional rendering computer software.
- Current and emerging technologies that support the applicable area(s).
- Principles and practices of supervision.
- Applicable laws, regulations, standards, and/or requirements.
- Methods of prioritizing, planning, and organizing work.
- Principles of data research, collection, organization, interpretation, and reporting.
- General accounting and bookkeeping principles.

Ability to : - Supervise and provide technical support for theatre productions and events.
- Create designs, blueprints, and other drawings and construct event/production sets, lighting, sound, props, and special effects.
- Construct and build custom furniture.
- Maintain and repair performing arts and related facilities and equipment.
- Enforce safety regulations and protocols throughout the performing arts facilities.
- Operate a camera in performance venues of various lighting.
- Use a variety of wood and metal working tools.
- Identify and implement appropriate technology and resources.
- Research, develop, apply, explain, and/or ensure the compliance of applicable laws, regulations, policies and/or procedures.
- Identify needs, analyze problems, and provide recommendations and/or alternative solutions.

- Supervise, train, and evaluate the work of assigned employees.

- Prepare and deliver presentations.
- Utilize standard office software and equipment.

Additional Information Starting salary: Step 1
$7,230 to Step 3
$7,963 per month, based on training and experience.
Salary range: Step 1 $7,230 to Step 11 $12,096 per month (including longevity steps)
