Job Description

The successful applicant will have a particular teaching focus in anatomy and physiology. An earned doctorate or related terminal degree from an accredited institution in biology, physiology, or related field is required. Excellence in teaching is essential, including integration of faith into the classroom and discipline. Previous teaching and/or postdoctoral experience is desired.

We worship together, serve one another, and grow in faith as we learn in the classroom, on the field, at chapel, and anywhere else we're doing Life Together.The successful candidate's primary teaching responsibilities will be Anatomy and Physiology for nursing students, both lecture and lab. Depending on the applicant's expertise and interests, the remaining teaching load could include: foundational biology courses (e.g., cellular/molecular biology, genetics, organismal biology, anatomy, physiology), upper-level biology courses (e.g., bioinformatics, molecular and cell biology, microbiology and immunology, developmental biology, medical terminology, research methods, nature of science, evolutionary biology, senior capstone), or a course in the applicant's area of specialization. A typical teaching load is two courses with associated labs per semester.

The successful candidate will be expected to engage in biology research or other forms of scholarship that involve undergraduate students. The appointee will be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. Standard faculty duties such as advising, committee assignments, and scholarly activity are expected.Preference will be given to applicants with research programs designed to involve undergraduate student researchers. Candidates with primary disciplines in a wide variety of biology subfields will be considered and are encouraged to apply, however, preference will be given to those with a background in anatomy or physiology. Prior to application, we welcome letters of inquiry to discuss a candidate's potential academic and mission fit within the department (address letters to brdewar@taylor.edu.)The Biology Program consists of six full-time faculty members who serve over 100 students majoring in Biology Investigation and Applications, Biology Health Sciences, and Biology Secondary Education, as well as providing instruction for students in general education, nursing, and service courses. The Biology Program works closely with our department (Department of Biology, Environmental Science, and Sustainable Development) as well as Chemistry & Biochemistry, Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, and Public Health. The Biology Program is housed primarily in the 127,000 square foot LEED Gold certified Euler Science Complex that opened in 2012 and has state-of-the-art biology instructional laboratory equipment (e.g., cell culture room, small animal care facility, cryostat, greenhouses, and upright fluorescence confocal microscope). Departmental faculty have expertise in animal, plant, cellular, molecular, microbial, developmental biology, and genetics.
