Job Description

A Journeyman is responsible for performing duties related to the installation, alteration, repair, replacement and maintenance of electrical systems, conductors, and associated materials and equipment in order to assist in meeting strict daily and weekly project deadlines. Perform tasks independently or as a team under limited supervision. Often supervises work performed by others.

Job Functions: (Daily or Frequently)

• Demonstrate safe working procedures and reports unsafe working conditions and practices
• Ensures property for which he/she has been assigned (tools, materials, equipment, etc.) is secure
• Carries personal tools, such as on a waist tool belt, which weighs approximately 30 lbs
• Wears PPE when required, such as a hard hat, gloves, glasses, etc.
• Maintain tool, equipment, supplies and work area in a clean, orderly and safe condition
• Maintains good housekeeping, which may include but no limited to sweeping, organizing, cleaning tools, equipment, or work areas
• Transport tools and materials which may include but not limited to up to 50lbs over gravel, up stairs, etc.
• Bends, stoops, and must regain balance upon standing when installing electrical boxes, pipes, etc. that frequently span from floor to ceiling level
• Performs lifting, positioning, holding, fastening, drilling, or hammering objects, such as conduit, motors, fixtures, poles, and other objects for installation or removal
• Pulls wire of all gauges, with or without the assistance of others
• Uses one and two-handed manual, electrical and battery operated hand tools
• Follows instructions give by supervisor(s)

Additional Essential Functions:

• Measures, cuts, and bends wire and conduit
• Makes custom bends and cuts to ensure proper placement of conduit
• Supervises and explains up to two (2) workers
• Adheres to and/or completes pre-task working
• Organizes, prioritizes, plans, and lays out work and/or aspects of work for self and crew
• Communicates with coworkers daily by telephone and in person
• Follows federal, state, and local electrical and building codes when planning and conducting work

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:

• Communications skills
• Basic blueprint comprehension
• Ability to positively identify colors of wires
• Travel to new job sites as business operations require
• Work required schedule (may be required nights or overtime)
• Understand and perform basic math functions and read tape measure
• Use tools properly and safely
• Work in restricted areas (manholes, crawl spaces, etc.)
• Work in all weather elements- heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.
• Perform work at heights from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks, roofs, or other areas occasionally or as job requires
• Perform work on ladders of all types and heights
• Must be able to use construction site sanitary facilities (porta-johns)

Education/Experience/Prerequisites Required:

• Must have four (4) years or more of previous electrical experience (industrial/commercial)- min 8000 hours
• Maintain minimum tool list provided
• Reliable transportation
• Pass all criminal record and drug testing
• High School education, HS graduate, or GED or vocational background
• Complete on the job training, as required
• Valid driver's License
